She was a Roman matron who was quickly widowed, for which she entered a religious community, where she became superior. Saint Jerome called her “the Most Holy Lea” thanks to the fact that she always led an exemplary life.
Saint Jerome said that she converted to God after having gone through long suffering, thus finding happiness and peace. She was the mother of virgins and head of her monastery.
She taught the other women in her congregation by good example, putting words aside. She changed the soft garments for clothes that were neater and more faithful to the Lord.
Lea’s life changed completely, as she became a humble and kind woman with those most in need. Her dress was shoddy and unostentatious, her hair was unkempt and she never complained about the food.
Saint Jerome tells that Santa Lea stopped being one of the richest ladies in Rome to worship God and help the less fortunate.
