psalm 5

Have you ever wondered who has the honor of hearing your first words? when waking up? In the case of David, this privilege was always reserved for God: when we start the day by talking to the creator of all things, offering thanksgiving to him and blessing his holy name, we can be sure that a good day awaits us. In fact, David expressed himself about it saying: “Look at him and you will be resplendent, and your faces will not be ashamed.” (Psalm 33:6)… So how about we add this psalm to our morning prayer?

Psalm 5 text

“1 From the choirmaster. for flutes. Psalm of David.
2 Lord, listen to my words,
listen to my moans;
3 Hear my cry, my King and my God,
because I’m begging you.
4 Lord, at dawn you already hear my voice:
in the morning I expose my cause
and I wait for your answer.
5 You are not a God who loves evil;
no wicked will be your guest,
6 not even the proud will be able to resist
in front of your eyes.
You hate those who do evil
7 and destroy the liars.
To the bloodthirsty and treacherous man
the Lord abhors him!
8 But I, because of your great goodness,
I come to your house,
and I prostrate before your holy Temple
with deep fear.
9 Guide me, Lord, by your justice,
because I have many enemies:
make a smooth path for me.
10 There is no sincerity in his mouth,
his heart is wicked;
his throat is an open grave,
though they flatter with their tongues.
11 Punish them, Lord, as guilty,
let their intrigues fail;
cast them out for their many crimes,
because they have rebelled against you.
12 So those who take refuge in you will rejoice
and they will always sing jubilant;
you protect those who love your name,
and they will be filled with joy.
13 For you, Lord, bless the righteous,
your favor covers it like a shield.”
