How to pray with the psalms?

To pray with the psalms there are no rules! The Word of God is alive and touches each of us differently. However, we propose some ideas to immerse ourselves in the beauty and depth of these texts:

  • Keep a verse in your heart to accompany you throughout the day:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I can lack nothing.” (Psalm 23)
“Your word is a lamp for my steps, and a light on my path.” (Psalm 119). (Psalm 119)
The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the bulwark of my life, before whom will I tremble? (Psalm 27)
  • Meditate on a psalm: to deepen a prayerful reading, we can follow the four stages of lectio divina: lectio, meditatio, oratio and contemplatio (find all the advice to practice lectio divina at this link)
  • Pray the liturgy of the hours, in prayer union with Christians around the world: during each office, a psalm is recited (which can change each day according to the psalmist).
