Reflections on Christmas
Javier’s Catholic website
1.- Get two things into your head:
a) The important thing at Christmas is not the “external hubbub”, but the announcement that the Son of God became man and brought this summarized message: “God is Father, men are brothers and love one another”. Not knowing this message is not knowing or living Christmas.
b) The most important thing at Christmas is to know that when the Church, the People of God, celebrates Christmas liturgically, Jesus of Nazareth returns to earth again, he becomes present again among men (“he witnesses”) he is actualized the mystery, and repeats to each man, in his heart, his message: «God is Father, men are brothers and… love one another».
2.- The Christmas Cycle covers from the 1st Sunday of Advent to the Feast of the Epiphany (Three Kings).
3.- Three comings are commemorated at Christmas:
– Jesus who came twenty centuries ago.
– Jesus who comes (is present) in the liturgical celebration (Eucharist).
– Jesus who will come at the end of the world, as Judge, to judge the living and the dead.
4.- The Christmas Cycle is united with the Easter Cycle, CHRISTMAS looks at the RESURRECTION. Jesus is born, enters history, launches his message, preaches his Word of Salvation, they conspire against him, he dies on the cross and… RESURRECTS ON THE THIRD DAY!! And by his Resurrection he remains present in history and in the Church…
