How to repent?

Repentance is a conversion of heart and an act of faith.
In fact, it not only allows us to recognize sin, but also our very condition as sinners and the path to our salvation. It is with humility and faith that we ask God to forgive us through his son Jesus Christ who, we believe, redeemed the sins of men by the gift of his life.
To repent is not only to ask for forgiveness, but also to ask for the grace to know how to forgive those who could have hurt us. In fact, there cannot be one thing without the other and we learned that from Jesus in the words of the Our Father.

John Calvin’s Prayer of Repentance

” Lord God, eternal and omnipotent Father, we acknowledge and confess before your holy Majesty that we are poor sinners,
born in iniquity, inclined to evil and incapable of doing good ourselves. We confess to having broken your holy commandments daily and in different ways, and thus deserving, by your just sentence, condemnation and death.
But, oh Lord, we feel a deep pain for having offended you and we condemn ourselves and our transgressions with true repentance, we turn to your grace and we beg you to help us in our misery.
Have mercy on us, O God of all goodness, merciful Father, and forgive us our sins, for the love of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Savior.
Grant us and increase in us every day the graces of your holy spirit, so that always recognizing our faults, we repent and renounce them with all our hearts and bear fruits of justice and holiness that are pleasing to you, through Jesus Christ, our Mister. Amen. »

Psalm of David (51)

“From the choirmaster. Psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan visited him, after he had joined Bathsheba.
Have mercy on me, O God, by your goodness, by your great compassion, blot out my faults!
Cleanse me totally of my guilt and purify me of my sin!
Because I recognize my faults and my sin is always before me.
Against you, against you I only sinned and did what is bad in your eyes.
Therefore, your sentence will be just and your judgment will be irreproachable;
I am guilty since I was born; Sinful my mother conceived me.
You love the sincerity of the heart and teach me the wisdom within.
Purify me with the hyssop and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Announce to me the joy and gladness: let the broken bones rejoice.
Take your eyes off my sins and erase all my faults.
Create in me, my God, a pure heart, and renew the firmness of my spirit.
Do not cast me away from your presence or withdraw your holy spirit from me.
Give me back the joy of your salvation, may your generous spirit sustain me:
I will teach your way to the wicked and sinners will return to you.
Deliver me from death, God, my savior, and my tongue will announce your justice!
Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will proclaim your praise.
Sacrifices do not satisfy you; if I offer a holocaust, you do not accept it:
my sacrifice is a contrite spirit, you do not despise a contrite and humiliated heart.
Treat Zion well for your goodness; he rebuilds the walls of Jerusalem,
Then you will accept the ritual sacrifices – the oblations and burnt offerings –
and steers will be offered on your altar.”
