Saint Ramon Nonato
His feast is celebrated on August 31. He was a priest (+ 1240)
Biography
In the province of Lérida (Spain), in a small country house, near the town of Portell, and descendants of the noble families of the Fox and Cárdenas, this child came into the world in a miraculous way, since he was extracted from the womb of his mother when she was already dead, hence the nickname by which he is known, No-Born, unborn.
God’s plans are not our plans. Nor are the plans of the parents, sometimes, the best for their children. On many occasions, they seek their own selfishness instead of the good of their children. Ramón’s father sent him to Barcelona to make friends with rich people, make a career, and tomorrow it would be his pride and his support.
Shortly after arriving in Barcelona, Ramón gave himself up to a life of deep study but no less devoted himself to a life of piety. To do this, instead of making friends with rich people, he cared for books and the needy. Upon learning of him, his father sent him back to Portell and there he entrusted him with the care of some sheep. He made friends with other shepherds, but since the devil does not sleep, soon some envious person accused the owner of the sheep that he was abandoning the cattle. The master believed him and one day he followed him from afar to see if it was true. And certainly it was so: the young Ramón retired to a solitary place, and, kneeling, gave himself up to prayer. But the wonder of the master increased with emotion when he saw that a handsome young man, with angel wings, took care of his flock and fed his sheep in the best pastures. In fact, they were the ones that produced the most wool and milk. Envy turned into admiration and respect.
At this time is when he put himself at the total service of the Virgin Mary and under her protection. One day, while taking care of her sheep, she spoke to her like this: “My mother, you know that I have not had the happiness of knowing my mother on earth, but I know you and I love you. Do you not want to replace my mother? from the earth?” – And the Virgin Mary replied: “Yes, yes, my son, I gladly accept being your mother…”
The prodigies that a young man named Pedro Nolasco (later Saint) was working in Barcelona reached the ears of Ramón, who was trying to found an Order for the redemption of the poor captives, who, fallen into the hands of the Saracens, were taken to the dungeons of Africa . He went to Barcelona and met him and put himself at his service and under his spiritual direction.
In Barcelona he dedicated himself to doing charity work in the streets and in private homes. Above all, he left traces of his great charity towards all kinds of patients in the Hospital of Santa Eulalia. An old biography paints him like this: “He was of incandescent charity, who loved letters and took great advantage of them. From town to town he carried the Good News of the Gospel; all the knights and nobles respected him; all the poor loved him and Everyone followed in his footsteps…
His charity was finally going to reach heroism: he gave himself up in exchange for a captive and was in the jails of Algiers. Great sufferings suffered there for love of Jesus Christ and his brothers men. He was around 1237. He preached so much and with so much passion about Christ that, to avoid it, the Moors put a padlock on his mouth. As a reward, the Pope made him a Cardinal of the Church but he was not proud of it. In love with Jesus in the Eucharist and with Mary, he departed for eternity in the year 1240.

By the sign of the Holy Cross, deliver us from our enemies Lord, our God.
act of contrition:
My Lord, Jesus Christ!
True God and Man,
My Creator, Father and Redeemer; for being you who you are, infinite goodness,

Helped by your divine grace
I firmly propose never to sin again,
confess and fulfill the penance that was imposed on me. Amen.
God, Father of kindness, who has given me the immense benefit of fathering a son, thank you for having made us part of your paternity, giving existence to a new being. Thanksgiving after the birth of the son.
Today, Lord, I come before your altar with a soul full of joy and gratitude to thank you for all the benefits that I have received from your kindness and especially because our wait has happily ended with the birth of this son that you have given us and that more than ours is yours. That’s why we come to offer it to you. It is yours, as we are all yours, and we want to continue to be yours forever. We promise to present him to the Church so that, when he is baptized, he is consecrated to You. We commit ourselves to educate you in the Christian faith with our example and with our advice. May the maternal help of Mary be a guide in this mission.
We want to thank you through the mediation of San Ramón Nonato, our protector. May his intercession also help us to give our son a holy education. We ask this through your beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
