ISRAEL. – The relationship between faith and science has never been a problem for scientists committed to the truth of the facts. This, because the more knowledge is acquired, the more discoveries confirm the stories of the Bible to later be scientifically proven, against those who deny the truth of God’s revelation to humanity.
Recently, some information was added to the enormous bank of information available in favor of the Judeo-Christian faith, this time, basing accounts contained in the Old Testament.
These data are based on an article titled: “Book of Amos Fact Check”written by Ruth Schuster, where it features research scientists who confirm the fact of the earthquakes mentioned in the books of Amos and Zechariah.
According to Ruth, “discoveries made in an excavation at Hazor by Professors Israel Finkelstein and Yigal Yadin found a level of destruction corresponding to the year 760 BC”, that is, the same period assigned to the writings of the prophets of the Bible
“In another excavation at Lachish, David Ussishkin found a level of destruction from the same time. The piece of land also has a similar layer dating from the mid-eighth century BC,” adds Ruth, who is a biologist, trained at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The story in the book of Zechariah is precise: «And you will flee to the valley of the mountains, because the valley of the mountains will reach Azal; you will flee the way you fled because of the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah; and the Lord my God will come, and with him all the saints”, Zechariah 14: 5.
In verse 4 of the same chapter of the Bible, the prophet goes so far as to say that the Mount of Olives was “divided into two halves by a very large valley, so that one half moved north. and the other for the south”, indicating the size of the earthquake, which, according to experts, must have been 8.2 on the Richter scale.
“This magnitude 8 event from 750 BC appears to be the largest ever documented in the area. of the Dead Sea transform fault over the last four millennia,” explained Creation Geology Professor Dr. Steven A. Austin.
According to Ruth’s article, scientists Kate Raphael and Amotz Agnon concluded that at least 11 earthquakes occurred in the time and region described by the biblical prophets. However, due to the magnitude, only the strongest was reported in the Bible.
The investigations were carried out using the carbon-14 dating method, using organic materials harvested in the depths of the Dead Sea.
