CHRISTIANNEWS.COM. – A 17-year-old is using TikTok to help his generation find Jesus. Elijah Lamb is a teenager who preaches to his more than 660,000 followers on the app, which already has 17.6 million likes.
In his TikTok bio, Elijah Lamb declares himself “saved and set free by Jesus.” Although he grew up in the church, the young man admitted that he was just a parishioner, that Jesus was never real to him, until one day his grandparents took him with them on a mission trip to Mexico. And then his life changed completely.
Since then, Elijah Lamb has felt God plant the desire to preach in his heart. The young man did not know what to do until suddenly the conviction came to him to use TikTok to talk about Jesus.
Apparently, 60% of TikTok users belong to the so-called Generation Z (people born, on average, between the second half of the 1990s to early 2010), according to GodTV.
They usually spend most of their time on this social media platform. And according to Pew, in the United States, this generation “is twice as likely to identify as atheist compared to the rest of the country.”
This is why they are often labeled the “post-Christian generation.” Elijah wants to help change that and has taken a modern twist to educate young Christians and non-believers through TikTok.
Preaching on TikTok
Elijah began posting Christian videos about forgiveness last summer. And he ended up gaining millions of views. He now has his own online “fellowship” with more than 660,000 active followers.
“Well, the overall goal of what I’m doing with TikTok is to reach Christians and non-Christians. Especially kids my age who don’t take the Gospel, the Bible, or the church seriously. To show them that they should do it,” she said.
But Elijah is not alone in this mission on the social media platform. Christian hashtags on TikTok such as #Jesus reached 7.6 billion, #Christian reached 6.4 billion, #ChristianTikTok reached 479 million, and #DefendTheGospel reached 14.9 million.
Reaching Generation Z
Furthermore, Elijah also pointed out how pastors and church leaders today don’t know how to reach Generation Z, due to the rapid involvement of this generation on the internet. And as a member of the generation, he said that he has a unique influence because they immediately have their respect.
For the teen, his job at TikTok is a ministry. He says that if God had not led him to what he is doing today, he would still be working in a coffee shop.
In Brazil
With the idea of creating evangelistic content for Brazilians, “O Retiro” will bring together the biggest Christian influencers on TikTok, in an unprecedented reality show format.
The 30 most influential and creative Christian TikTokers on the Internet will meet for 15 days in a house. From there, they will show the reality of a retreat and produce Christian content to impact thousands of young people not only on TikTok, but on other video platforms.
The project was created by Pastor Guilherme Batista, who during the pandemic has been using TikTok and other social networks as a tool to attract young people to God.
“TikTok today is one of the most downloaded applications in the world and the main application used by teenagers,” says Guilherme.
The Retreat will be screened from October 11 to 26. The content will be broadcast through the event application and through the “O Retiro” pages on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
