CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- Patients flocked to an abortion clinic in Fort Worth, Texas, a day before the state’s new pro-life law went into effect.
The Heartbeat Bill, which criminalizes abortions performed after six weeks of pregnancy, is one of the strictest abortion laws in the country. Which caused up to 67 women to undergo last-minute abortions on Tuesday night.
The Whole Woman’s Health clinic in Fort Worth was reportedly packed with patients waiting for an abortion Tuesday night, as the heartbeat bill was set to take effect at midnight Wednesday.
The clinic’s director of clinical services, Marva Sadler, said they had to perform, “eight abortions an hour with a single doctor on call. An octogenarian who worked from 7 in the morning.
“We’re not the bad guys here. We are doing everything right and we are going to help everyone we can. If there’s someone we can’t help, it’s not our fault,” Sadler told the team.
One of the many women who sought abortion, the day before the Texas heartbeat bill went into effect, was a drug user who was 12 weeks pregnant.
The woman was set to serve a five-year prison sentence the following week, and begged the clinic to provide her with an abortion, as she did not want to give birth to her child in prison.
Sadler praised the abortion doctor for performing 67 abortions in just 17 hours. And he pointed out that other doctors half his age could not have accomplished such a mammoth task, reports 19th News.
