the advent wreath
Advent wreath is called an ornament made with fir or pine branches, with four candles, which is placed on a table during the Advent season.
The four candles are usually the colors described below:
Purple: Represents the spirit of the vigil.
Green: Represents hope.
Rosa: Represents the joy for the proximity of the birth of Jesus.
White: It is the color of the luminous presence of God.
The liturgical year begins with Advent. One of the four candles is lit each Sunday of the four that Advent lasts, to indicate the path that is traveled until Christmas. The first Sunday of Advent one, the second two, and so on. The firing order is: purple, green, pink and white.
In addition to being a decorative element, this wreath announces that Christmas is near and we must prepare ourselves.
Christians, to prepare ourselves for the coming of our LIGHT and LIFE, the Nativity of the Lord, take advantage of this “Advent Wreath” as a means to wait for Christ and beg him to instill his light in our souls.
The circle is a perfect geometric figure that has neither a beginning nor an end. The advent wreath is shaped like a circle to remind us that God has no beginning or end, reflecting his unity and eternity. It also helps us to think about the thousands of years of waiting from Adam to Christ and about the second and definitive coming; we become aware that we come from God and to Him we will return.
The green branches of pine or fir represent that Christ is alive among us, in addition its green color reminds us of the life of grace, spiritual growth and hope that we must cultivate during Advent.
The red apples with which some people decorate the crown, represent the fruits of the Garden of Eden, with Adam and Eve, who brought sin into the world, but also received the promise of the universal Savior.
The red ribbon represents our love for God and the love of God that surrounds us.
On Christmas day, the candles are replaced by red ones that symbolize the festive spirit of the family reunion. In the center, a white candle or candle is placed symbolizing Christ as the center of everything that exists.
The light of the candles symbolizes the light of Christ that we seek since we were little and that allows us to see both the world and our interior. As we have mentioned before, four Sundays before Christmas the first candle is lit. Every Sunday, one more candle is lit. The fact of turning them on little by little reminds us how, as the light approaches, the darkness dissipates, in the same way that as the arrival of Jesus Christ approaches, who is light for our lives, the reign must fade. of sin on earth. The light from the white candle or candle that is lit on Christmas Eve reminds us that Christ is the Light of the world. The brightness of the light of that white candle at Christmas reminds us how in the fullness of time the “Advent of the Lord” is fulfilled.
