The beatitudes
And taking the floor, he taught them saying:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, because theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those that weep, for they shall receive consolation.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are those who work for peace, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of justice, because theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you with lies for my sake.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.
