the main thing
Legend has it that a poor woman with a child in her arms, passing in front of a cave, heard a mysterious voice coming from inside and told her: “Go in and take everything you want, but don’t forget the main thing, after If you leave, the door will be closed forever, so take advantage of the opportunity, but do not forget the main thing…”. The woman entered the cave and found much riches. Fascinated by gold, by jewels, she put the baby on the floor and eagerly began to gather everything she could, on her apron. The mysterious voice spoke again: “You only have four minutes…” When the four minutes were up, the woman loaded with gold and precious stones ran out of the cave and the door closed. She then remembered that her baby was left inside and the door was closed forever… Wealth was short-lived and despair was lifelong.
The same thing sometimes happens with us. We have about 80 years to live in this world, and one voice always warns us “do not forget about the main thing”… And the main thing is spiritual values, prayer, family, friends, life. But profit, wealth, material pleasures fascinate us so much that we always leave the main thing aside… Thus we exhaust our time here and leave aside the essential: “The treasures of the soul” . Time goes by; eternity is coming!
“I do not promise you happiness here or now…” Our Lady said to Saint Bernadette in Lourdes, who suffered a lot, but loving our Lord Jesus Christ, let us never forget that life in this world passes quickly, that death it arrives, and when the door of this life is closed for us, regrets will be worthless. Now it’s mercy. Do not take your eyes off the most important thing, which is God, from his love towards us, (expressed, in a very special way, in the holy sacrifice), from showing true love towards others… (for God) and do not divert your sight or waste your time on things of temporary value…
