The sinner
A man went to confess to a priest and asked him to be his intercessor before God, to see if that would leave his sins and his bad life. The priest promised him so and he did so; but as after some time he did not stop complaining that he continued to sin and those prayers were of no benefit to him, the priest said to him:
– Come and help me pick up that sack of wheat that that mule has dropped.
The man took the sack from one side and the priest from the other, and the more the sinner pulled up, the more the priest pulled down:
– How are we going to lift it like this? the man asked.
– Well, you do the same – replied the priest – when I ask God to free you from your sins, you keep pulling down.
Moral: Our willingness to want to change is decisive in the process of sanctification. The will is strengthened with prayer and the sacraments. These constitute our best shields to protect ourselves more efficiently in the environment in which we live. Live them so you can have true life!
