The trial begins against a pastor who abused his victims using the Bible

.- On June 14, the trial began against Carlos Manuel Chavarría Fonseca, called the “Pastor of the rich”, who must respond to the accusations of sexual violence and corruption against him.

The “Pastor of the rich” will appear before the courts for eight crimes of qualified rape, nine crimes of sexual abuse, one of qualified attempted rape and one of aggravated corruption.

The same faithful of the congregation that Chavarría led denounced him to the authorities, reports Free Press.

Forty witnesses are expected to testify against the pastor in a trial that will end on August 13.

People close to Chavarría assure that the pastor took advantage of his role as church leader to abuse the victims.

The trial will also discuss his misuse of the Bible to justify his actions.

On August 5, 2019, the pastor was arrested in La Asunción de Belén, Heredia, after he was reported to the Public Ministry, reports Free Press.

Chavarría was sentenced to preventive detention for two months; On October 9, the courts released him, but they detained him after appealing the measure.

He is known as the shepherd of the rich for his many connections with public figures.

The weekly Universidad revealed the former pastor’s links with the National Restoration Party (PRN).

In 2019, the “Pastor of the rich” was separated from the church after eight women accused him of committing sexual crimes against them.

One of the women reported that these acts of sexual violence occurred when she was nine years old.
