The uncorrupted saints

The uncorrupted saints

God has many ways of manifesting his Omnipotence, in a sensible way, in front of all of us. One of the most admirable is the one that refers to the Holy Incorrupt Bodies.

A few years ago, the Vatican opened the tomb of Blessed John XXIII, whose most significant work was the completion of the Second Vatican Council. To the surprise of those who performed the ceremony, and despite the decades that have passed since his death, his body was totally incorrupt. His remains, thus, are now on display in St. Peter’s Basilica in a glass case, to the admiration of those who visit.

But it is not the first time that this has happened, since there are many cases of Saints who, despite decades or centuries of their death, have their bodies in a state of incorruptibility. The case of Saint Bernadette de Soubirous, the seer of the Lourdes apparition, is one of the most admirable and well-known. Her face shows even today a peace and joy that reflect the happiness she felt the moment she reached the gates of the Heavenly Homeland.

Also the body of the Holy Curé of Ars, Juan María Bautista Vianney, is incorrupt. He lived a life of mystical feats, of fighting against the devil, of tireless work in the confessional, of remarkable mystical facts such as the bilocation of his body (being in several places at the same time) and the perfume of holiness, among many others.

Jacinta Marto, the girl who, together with her brother Francisco and her cousin Lucía Dos Santos, received a visit from the Woman Clothed with the Sun in Fatima, showed her face as a totally incorrupt angelic girl when her remains were moved to Portugal several years after her death. .

The heart of Saint Vincent de Paul, founder of the Vincentian order, is also incorrupt. And so you can name Santa Clara de Asís, Santa Imelda, Santa Margarita, Santa Rita de Casia, San Juan Bosco, Santa Catalina de Labouré, Santa Ángela de la Cruz, the Venerable Mother Ana de San Agustín, the Argentine Fray Mamerto Esquiú , Saint Peregrine Laziosi and many other Saints who testify to the living Presence of Jesus working among us today.

Many people live with the conviction that the miracles worked by God are a thing of the past, or that the heavenly manifestations culminated with the Ascension of Jesus or at most during the first centuries of the Church. However, God continues to show us that his hand continues to work around us to draw our attention to the need to recognize the existence of the supernatural world among us, in the XXI century.

But what is the meaning and message of Heaven in keeping the bodies of these souls in a state that defies natural laws? Undoubtedly, the main meaning is to clearly indicate to us His predilection for those who sanctified themselves, who lived an existence seeking total surrender to the Will of God. Jesus marks us with his Mystical Presence to those we should look at as examples of the path to follow.

Meanwhile, the world calls us with its inconsistent messages oriented to materialism, to the denial of the Presence of God in every little thing we live, to a life devoid of spiritual content. God, with the messages of his Presence and defying the laws of his Creation, teaches us that He can do everything, especially when he is in the presence of sanctified souls.

Let us raise our eyes high, let us see the magnificent manifestation of God acting in front of all of us in the testimony of the most amazing miracles. Let us not let the things of the world hinder our vision and our understanding. If God calls us in so many different ways, what is the point of continuing to live attached to the frenzy of fighting for things that have no meaning for the transcendent mission of our own salvation?
