The water that wanted to be fire

The water that wanted to be fire

“I’m tired of being cold and running down the river. They say I’m necessary but I’d rather be beautiful and ignite enthusiasm. And be red and warm, and make lovers’ hearts burn. They say I purify what I touch, but fire has more purifying power. I would like to be fire and water!”

This is how the water of a mountain river thought in September.

And since he wanted to be fire, he decided to write a letter to God asking him to change his identity.

“Dear God: You made me water, but I want to tell you with all due respect, that I am tired of being transparent; I prefer the color red for me: I would like to be fire, can it be? You yourself, Lord, identified yourself with the bush burning and you said that you had come to set fire to the earth. I don’t remember that you ever compared yourself to water. Therefore, I think you will understand my desire. It is not a simple whim. I need this change for my personal fulfillment…”.

The water came out every morning to its shore to see if God’s answer would come. One afternoon a very white boat passed by and dropped a very red envelope into the water. The water opened it and read:

“Dear daughter, I hasten to answer your letter. It seems that you have tired of being water, I am very sorry because you are not just any water. Your grandmother was the one who baptized me in the Jordan, and I had you destined to fall on the heads of many children. You prepare the path of fire. My Spirit does not come down on anyone who has not been washed by you. Water is always before fire.”

While the water was soaked reading the letter, God came down to his side and contemplated in silence. The water looked at itself and saw the face of God reflected in it.

And God kept smiling waiting for an answer…

The water then understood that the privilege of reflecting the face of God is only held by clean water. He sighed and said:

“Yes Lord, I will continue to be water. I will continue to be your mirror. THANK YOU”.
