The wheat and the tares

In the GospelsJesus used parables to talk about the realities of the kingdom of heaven, so he used to start some of his teachings by saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like…”. On the other hand, it is curious to see that the Lord used illustrations related to agriculture, as is the case of the parable of the wheat and the tares what can we find in the gospel of matthew. This story is in turn one of the few parables whose meaning is clearly specified in the Scriptures. discover this biblical passage and what Jesus means by “separate the wheat from the tares”.

It is necessary to separate the wheat from the tares

“24 And he proposed another parable to them: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;
25 but while they all slept his enemy came, sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.
26 When the wheat grew and the ears appeared, the tares also appeared.
27 Then the farmhands went to see the owner and said to him, “Lord, hadn’t you sown good seed in your field? How come there are tares in him now?
28 He answered them, “This has been done by an enemy.” The peons replied: “Do you want us to go uproot it?”
29 “No,” the owner told them, “because by uprooting the tares, you run the risk of uprooting the wheat as well.
30 Let them grow together until the harvest, and then I will say to the harvesters: Pull out the tares first and bind them in bundles to burn them, and then gather the wheat into my barn.” (Matthew 13:24-30)

Jesus’ explanation of this parable

“36 So, leaving the crowd, Jesus returned to the house; His disciples came to him and said, “Tell us the parable of the tares in the field.”
37 He answered them, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man;
38 the field is the world; the good seed are those who belong to the Kingdom; the tares are those who belong to the Evil One,
39 and the enemy that sows it is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world and the harvesters are the angels.
40 Just as tares are pulled out and burned in the fire, so it will happen at the end of the world.
41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his kingdom all scandals and those who have done evil,
42 and they will throw them into the fiery furnace: there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear!” (Matthew 13:36-43).
