A young man was listening to the Pope’s prayer in Saint Peter’s Square while carrying a flag demanding the freedom of Cuba. In response, Vatican security confiscated the flag.

Some lines of the Medici song say: “The Pope decided that it is forbidden to pray / with the Cuban flag to ask for freedom / he wants to kidnap God and so he cannot hear.”

The lyrics of the song directly tell the Pope to ask the Lord for forgiveness: “If you support dictatorships / ask Christ for forgiveness / ask the people of Cuba for forgiveness, Pope Francis.”

Last Sunday, hundreds of Cubans residing in Italy called for a rally outside the Vatican to support the demonstration against the Cuban dictatorship on November 15.

The Vatican authorities only allowed 50 people to enter the church and they were prohibited from professing slogans, carrying flags or banners. A protester told CiberCuba that those were the conditions imposed by the cardinal.

“We understand about the slogans and posters, but why can’t the flag be carried?” he questioned.

For their part, the Cubans said that they were not trying to hold a demonstration, but that they were seeking to show the flags only to visualize the situation in the Caribbean country.

Cubanet He indicated that after the mass, the Cubans shouted phrases such as: “If Cuba is on the street, so are we”, “Nobody pays us, we are not terrorists” and “We are all children of God.”

The protesters denounced that 500 Cubans who participated in the demonstrations on July 11 are still behind bars.

Cubans have called for a march on November 15, however, the Cuban government has denied them permission, considering it illegal, and promised it would respond with economic sanctions and imprisonment.
