Venerable P. Flix by Jess Rougier
Fr. Flix was born on December 17, 1859 in France, his parents were Benedict Rougier and María Luisa Olanier, a deeply Christian family. At first, Fr. Flix thought he would be a doctor, but after feeling God’s call, he decided to be a priest.
On September 24, 1889, he was ordained Priest after, by the miracle of Saint John Bosco, he was cured of a terrible disease in his right arm that did not allow him to be ordained.
He was thinking of going to Oceania, but he is sent to Colombia where he was involved in the war of a thousand days. He carried out a great apostolate, helped many people, became a military chaplain and had an outstanding job in Ibagu, being a missionary in those lands.
Later, the Society of Mary to which he belonged assigned him to Mexico, where he met the Venerable Mystic Concepción Cabrera, who, confessing, indicated to Fr. Flix his mission in the Church. This mission was to found the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit among other great things. This confession was a revelation from God to Fr. Felix.
Some time after this providential meeting, he left for France to ask his Superiors for permission to found the new congregation, but this was denied and he spent 10 years in exile. It was a terrible pain, but his obedience was permanent.
After the above came December 25, 1914 and at the age of 55 is when he founded the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, in the midst of religious persecution in Mexico, risking being killed, he dedicated himself to spreading by all possible means the Word of God. He used to repeat “when I know something is from God, I like to do it soon”.
Initially they had not allowed him to pass from the Society of Mary to the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, it was until February 9, 1926 that Pope Pius XI granted him permission, until he received the permission he did not effect the passage, he showed obedience to a degree heroic.
He also founded three congregations apart from the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit and these are: Daughters of the Holy Spirit to promote all vocations especially to the consecrated life, the Guadalupan Missionaries of the Holy Spirit to evangelize the indigenous and the Oblates of Jesus Priest to help in the formation of priests.
He worked in difficult times, but he did the will of God. He said “That’s what you want, my Jesus, that’s what I want.” Devoted to the Virgin Mary of which he said “with Mary everything, without her nothing”.
He died with a fame of holiness that has spread to various countries on January 10, 1938, he suffered terrible pain and rested in peace, leaving as his last words “charity, much charity”.
Those who knew him testify to his kindness and present him as a soul full of holiness, he is currently Venerable and intense work is being done for his Beatification, many favors have already been attributed to him, now a miracle is missing for his beatification and another for his canonization .
His remains rest in the National Expiatory Temple of San Felipe de Jesús, located in Mexico City.
