Victoria: Children’s Transgender Clinic Closes After Texas Protests

CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- A clinic for transgender children in Dallas, Texas, closed after activists organized demonstrations against members of the hospital board, and accused the program of committing child abuse.

A group called Save Texas Kids held multiple protests against the Gender Education and Care Interdisciplinary Support program at the Dallas Children’s Health hospital. Arguing that giving boys puberty blockers is abusive.

The Texas court reported that hospital officials had recently told a local website that their program was vital for youth with gender dysphoria, CBN News reports.

They also said the care, which was considered the first of its kind in the Southwest. “It helped reduce significant suffering and extraordinarily high suicide rates” among transgender children.

But Save Texas Children had opposed the hospital’s puberty blockers and other irreversible medical steps. Saying that treatment for children should be limited to counseling until they reach the age of 18. When they can make better informed decisions that will affect the rest of their lives.

Although no formal announcement was made about the show’s closure. Hospital officials said in a statement that the new patients will be cared for in “appropriate specialized departments.” And they will be offered mental health and counseling services.

“We are accepting new patients for diagnosis, including evaluation for gender dysphoria, but we will not start patients on puberty or hormone suppression therapy for this diagnosis alone,” the statement concluded.
