What does the Bible say about abortion?

CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- The word abortion is never mentioned in the Bible. However, in those days, abortion, infanticide, and child abandonment were permitted under Roman law.

In fact, there are several passages that refer to the murder of women and children during wars against Israel’s enemies. Simply put, abortion is murder.

It is the murder of a human being created in the image of God because he values human life. However, that does not mean that the Bible is silent on the matter because it has a lot to say about the value that God places on life and even when life begins.

Life is life. It is precious, it does not matter if it is a day or 100 years on this earth. Even inside the womb God sees life, values it, he is the author, and he has ordered every day of his life just as he has done with each one of us.

value of life

Jesus reaffirmed his position, the value of life and even of children by coming into the world through a young single teenager named Mary. In those days, an unmarried and pregnant woman could be sentenced to death in the eyes of the law.

Another passage about life refers to Maria’s cousin, Elizabeth, when she became pregnant in her old age. While John was still in the womb, he already revealed his personality when he jumped for joy at hearing Mary’s voice.

The same Greek word from the New Testament “brephos” is used to describe the interutero joy of John (Luke 1:41), the infant Jesus (Luke 2:12, 16), and the children who come to Jesus during his ministry (Luke 18:15).

The Bible has dozens and dozens of scriptures that refer to the value of life.

The only reference to the life of an unborn child is one of the Mosaic laws that referred to miscarriage: If a woman miscarries as a result of a fight, the man who caused it would be severely punished to death.

For those who have had an abortion

Jesus is not surprised by abortion. He knows everything about you, and he wants to take the crushing shame and insurmountable pain off your shoulders. He wants to wash you in grace and set you free.

When Jesus receives you, you are united with him. He goes to God on your behalf. And do you know what our mighty Father God says? “You have been crucified with Christ, you have already gone through the judgment, now you are hidden in Jesus. You are my son in whom I am pleased.” You are fully known and loved by God.

And the nice part? Your son is waiting for you. He or she is with Jesus and when she asks when she will be able to see you, Jesus simply answers: “Tomorrow”, because a day in her court is 1,000 years on this earth.

If you have an abortion, find a friend you can trust and tell them your story. Also look for a biblical counselor in your area and join an abortion recovery group if there is one in your area.

You don’t have to live with pain and guilt. God can use his story to free another woman and maybe save a child’s life as well. Whoever the Son sets free is truly free.
