Where was God?

Where was God?

Sally jumped from her seat when she saw the surgeon leave. She asked him:
“How is my little one? Is he going to be okay? When can I see him?”

The surgeon said, “I’m sorry; we did everything in our power.”

Sally said, dismayed, “Why do children get cancer? Does God not care about them anymore? God, where were you when my son needed you?”

The surgeon said, “One of the nurses will be out in a moment to let you spend a few minutes with your son’s remains before they are taken to the University.”

Sally asked the nurse to be with her as she said goodbye to her son. She ran her hand through her auburn hair.

The nurse asked her if she wanted to keep one of the curls. Sally nodded. The nurse cut off the curl, placed it in a plastic bag, and gave it to Sally.

Sally said: “It was Jimmy’s idea to donate his body to the University for study. He said it might help someone else. That’s what he wanted.

I refused at first, but he told me ‘Mommy, I won’t use it after I die, and maybe it will help a little boy enjoy one more day with his mommy’. My Jimmy had a heart of gold, always I thought of others and wanted to help them however I could.

Sally left Children’s Hospital for the last time, having been there for most of the last 6 months. Hers He placed the suitcase with Jimmy’s belongings on the car seat next to her. It was difficult to start the return home, and even more difficult to enter an empty house. She carried the suitcase up to Jimmy’s room and put the miniature cars and all of their things just like he always had them. She lay down on the bed and cried herself to sleep, hugging Jimmy’s little pillow.
She woke up around midnight and next to her was a folded sheet of paper. She opened the letter, which read:

Dear mom:

I know you are going to miss me, but don’t think that I have forgotten you or stopped loving you just because I am no longer there to tell you I LOVE YOU.

I will think of you every day, mommy, and every day I will love you even more. Someday we will meet again. If you want to adopt a child so that you are not so lonely, she can be in my room and she can play with all my things. If she decides for her to be a girl, she probably won’t like the same things that boys do, and you’ll have to buy her dolls and stuff.

Don’t be sad when you think of me; this place is great. The grandparents met me when I arrived and have shown me around here, but it will take some time to see everything. Angels are very friendly and I love to see them fly.

The Virgin Mary is of incomparable beauty. Jesus doesn’t look like any of the pictures I’ve seen of Him, but I knew it was Him as soon as I saw Him. Jesus took me to see God!

And what do you think, mommy? I sat on her lap and talked to her like I was someone important. I told God I wanted to write you a letter saying goodbye and all that, even though I knew it wasn’t allowed. God gave me paper and his personal pen to write you this letter. I think his name is Gabriel, the angel who will let you fall.

God told me to answer what you asked Him: ‘Where was He when I needed Him?’ God said: ‘In the same place as when Jesus was on the cross.’ He was right there, as he is with all of his children.

Tonight I will be at table with Jesus for dinner. I know the food will be fabulous. I almost forgot to tell you… I no longer have any pain; the cancer is gone. I’m glad, because I couldn’t bear so much pain anymore and God couldn’t bear to see me suffer like that, so he sent the Angel of Mercy to take me away. The Angel told me that I was a Special Delivery!
