CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- Paul Maxwell, a former writer for Desiring God and author of the book The Trauma of Doctrine, has announced that he is no longer a Christian. He collaborated with the well-known theologian John Piper.
“What I really miss is connecting with people,” Maxwell said on his Instagram account. “What I have discovered is that I am ready to connect again. And I’m ready to not be angry anymore. I love you guys and I love all the friendships and support I have built here. And I think it’s important to say that I’m not a Christian anymore and I feel great. I’m really happy”.
“I can’t wait to find out what kind of connection I can have with all of you beautiful people as I try to figure out what’s next,” she added. “I love you guys. I am in a very good situation. Probably the best place in my life. I am so overjoyed for the first time. I love my life”.
Maxwell, who has his Ph.D. in theology and has written on topics of theology, trauma and fitness, then followed up with a message for those who told him he was going to hell and “aren’t really happy” as a result of his rejection of Christianity.
“I just say, ‘I know you love me.’ I know it and I receive it as love. I know you care about the eternal state of my soul and you overcame the social awkwardness of telling me this because you don’t want me to suffer. And this is good. That’s a lovely thing to do. And I listen to where you’re coming from and I respect your perspective.”
Maxwell is the latest high-profile Christian figure to publicly renounce his faith in recent years, the Christian Post reported.
