You are worth a lot
Why cry while I’m walking, if others laugh and have no feet?
Don’t you think it would be good to take an inventory of the goods you have received or the good things that have happened to you, in order to live with greater joy and optimism?
Why live thinking about 10% of the things that make us suffer, and not remember 90% of the things that happen to us well?
In your body there are 800 thousand million cells working continuously and working all in your favor and in perfect harmony.
In your brain you have 13 billion neurons working so wisely in your favor that if you wanted to replace them with the most perfect computing machine in the world, that electronic machine would occupy the site of a seventy-story high building.
In your eyes, God has deposited 100 million receptors that allow you to enjoy the magic of colors, light, the sympathy of people and the majesty of nature.
In your ears there are 24 billion filaments that vibrate with the wind, with the laughter of children, with the soft music of the orchestras, with the trepidation of the foaming waters and when listening to the kind words of the people you value.
You are a human person, and the human being is the only animal that can speak, to calm the angry, encourage the dejected, stimulate the coward and say… I love you.
You can move, you are not a tree tied to a small piece of land. You can walk, run, dance and play sports. For this you have 500 muscles, 200 bones and 7,000 nerves, synchronized to obey you and take you wherever you want.
Your lungs are the best filters in the world. Through 600 million alveoli they purify the air they receive and rid your body of harmful waste.
You have a heart that is a wonder of nature. It pumps hour after hour, 36 million beats a year, year after year, awake or asleep, propelling blood through 100,000 kilometers of veins and arteries, which carry… More than 2 million liters of blood a year.
Your blood is a formidable treasure. It’s barely 4 liters but there are 22 million blood cells there, and in each cell there are many molecules and in each molecule there is an atom that oscillates more than 10 million times per second.
Every day 2 million of your cells die and are replaced by 2 million more, in a resurrection that has continued since the day you were born.
In your brain there are 4 million pain-sensitive structures, 500,000 tactile detectors, and 200,000 temperature detectors…
… Now ask yourself: Do you think your life is not worth it?
The sad thing is that we spend a lot of time thinking about what we need and almost never stop to remember and appreciate how much good we have.
Not only with respect to your body, also apply it to the gifts you possess, the family you have been given, the friendships you are blessed to possess, the comforts you enjoy, and even the opportunities that have been presented to you. Don’t just see what you need, be thankful for what you already have!
Make accounts of your goods, and of your joys too. Don’t waste time counting your ills.
Ask God to help you collect happy and optimistic thoughts, and don’t forget to banish those crows called “pessimistic thoughts” and “sad memories” from your mind.
And do you know why?… Because you are worth a lot!!!
