“1 Seeing the crowd, Jesus went up the mountain, sat down, and his disciples came to him.
2 Then he spoke and began to teach them, saying:
3 «Happy those who have a poor soul, because the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them.
4 Happy are the patients, because they will receive the earth as an inheritance.
5 Happy are the afflicted, for they will be comforted.
6 Happy are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
7 Happy are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Happy are those who have a pure heart, for they will see God.

9 Happy are those who work for peace, for they will be called children of God.
10 Happy are those who are persecuted for practicing justice, because the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them.
11 Happy are you, when you are insulted and persecuted, and when you are slandered in every way because of me.
12 Rejoice and rejoice then, for you will have a great reward in heaven; in the same way they persecuted the prophets who preceded them.
13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its flavor, with what will it be salted again? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown and stepped on by men.
14 You are the light of the world. You can’t hide a city on top of a mountain.
15 And a lamp is not lit to put it under a box, but it is put on the lampstand so that it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 So the light that is in you should shine before the eyes of men, so that they may see your good works and glorify the Father who is in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:1-16)

you are the light of the world

Jesus taught this word to a multitude of people from all walks of life, including people who did not have much material wealth or wisdom. With these words, Jesus reveals to us that believers have great value. Let us keep in mind that, currently, we are also part of that crowd that listens to Jesus, and let us remember that just as light is essential for life, salt is necessary to give flavor, the life of faith and justice of a child of God. they are also indispensable to this world. The Lord ends this part by telling us that we should not be afraid to show what we are, because in this way we will reflect God.
