Passage from the Gospel of John, chapter 14

“22 Judas – not Iscariot – said to him: «Lord, why are you going to manifest yourself to us and not to the world?».

23 Jesus replied, “Whoever loves me will be faithful to my word, and my Father will love him; we will go to it and dwell in it.

24 Whoever does not love me is not faithful to my words. The word that you heard is not mine, but the Father who sent me.

25 I tell you these things while I am with you.

26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my Name, will teach you everything and will remind you of what I have told you.

27 I leave you peace, I give you my peace, but not as the world gives it. Do not be anxious or afraid!

28 You have heard me say, “I am going away and I will come back to you.” If they loved me, they would rejoice that I return to the Father, because the Father is greater than me.

29 I have told you this before it happens, so that when it comes to pass, you may believe.

30 I will not talk much more with you, because the Prince of this world is about to come: he can do nothing against me,

31 but the world must know that I love the Father and do as he has commanded me. Get up, let’s get out of here.” (John 14:22-31).

receive the peace of God

Jesus wants to give all men a great gift:your peace!; to tell the truth, He intends to give us that peace that he always kept in his heart while he was on this earth. Let us bear in mind that the peace of Jesus is not compared to the peace of men, since human peace is never complete, but is built through wars, treaties, agreements, etc., and, even so, sometimes Neither party fully complies with the agreement. But Jesus speaks to us of a lasting peace, and this is peace of soul: if someone finds this peace, he will be able to overcome every test of God’s hand and come out of the battles he has to face (John 16:33). In other words, a person who has the peace of God can maintain his tranquility in the face of any adverse event that comes his way… In fact, we can only find this infinite peace in the abandonment to the will of God.

“I leave you peace, I give you my peace”… To tell the truth, these words of Jesus are so important that the priest repeats them at each mass so that the gift of Jesus continues to spread throughout the centuries. Let us remember that the peace of Christ flows over the world, from generation to generation, like an inexhaustible spring.
