Novena to the Virgin Undoing Knots

Devotion to Maria Desatanudos has had a worldwide reach since the end of the 20th century, after the now Pope Francis spread the image from the painting “María, desataudos”. After this event, a special novena was quickly held in honor of this Virgin. The ninth to Mary that unravels proposes, for nine days, to put a specific knot in Maria’s hands so that she can intercede for us before God and reach us with her graces.

Novena to Mary Undoing Knots

Program of the Novena to Mary Untie Knots

Each day of this novena, we pray:

  • the act of contrition

  • The plea to Maria untying knots (the knot is presented to Mary and we place at her feet a particular intention that we carry in our hearts: a wound, a difficulty, a lack, a wait that prevents us from finding peace)

  • The first three tens of the Rosary

  • meditation of the day

  • The other two decades of the Rosary

  • The final prayer to Maria untie knots.

Sometimes, the novena can be simplified, that is, the number of Hail Marys that are prayed can be reduced. The most important thing here is to be able to persevere until the end of the nine days.

The nine meditations of the novena of Father Celeiro

Day 1: Mary, new Eve

“Holy Mary, give me the strength to persevere in my love for God. May I not only turn to him in difficult times, but learn to give thanks for all his gifts: those I see and those I do not see.”

Day 2: Mary, full of grace

“O Mother, help me to keep a pure heart, in my love for God and for my brothers. Make me expel from my heart all traces of selfishness and all traces of pride”.

Day 3: Mary, servant of the Lord

“Holy Mary, Mediatrix and my Mother, teach me to value earthly goods according to the goods of heaven. May I, with my efforts, succeed in following in the footsteps of your Son and thus reach the kingdom of heaven.”

Day 4: Mary, blessed among women

“Holy Mary, Mother of God, I ask you to inspire the prayers that I raise to my heavenly Father. May his mercy be poured out on my loved ones and on those I love.”

Day 5: Mary’s faith

“Blessed Mother of the Lord, teach me to love life and everything around me with your simplicity. Mary, generous mother, exemplary wife, grant me to be encouraged, like you, by the unconditional love of my neighbor.”

Day 6: Mary, associated with the mission of Christ

“O Mary, my protector, help me to solve this network of problems that I myself create and allow me to love our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, above all things.”

Day 7: Mary, the first to hear the word of God and to fulfill it

“Dear Virgin Mary, teach me to love as you loved Jesus. Teach me to always give myself to Him and to my brothers, in a free, generous and disinterested love, like his”.

Day 8: Mary, Mediatrix of all Graces

“Mary, you who untie the knots, faithful servant of the interests of the Lord, let me be constantly encouraged by the love of my neighbor: this will be a test of my love of God. Help me to understand that it is not possible for me to love God if I don’t love my brothers.”

Day 9: Mary, Mother of God and our Mother

“Mary, my mother, I beg you to unleash the origin of my problems. Guide me in my mission to transmit the Word of the Lord every day so that with my daily example I can take it to those who do not have faith.”

Although the meditations and prayers of Father Celeiro are the most common, there are other novenas with the same format.

Entrust the knots of your life to Mary

It is good to start by choosing the intention, the knot that we cannot untie and that we want to entrust to Mary during the nine days of the novena. This knot can be any difficulty that we, or a loved one has, this can include the spiritual difficultymaterial, the tests of life, illness, depression, addiction, a breakup, relationship problems, looking for a job or a home, etc. Some knots are deep wounds, others are concerns related to the situations we are going through.

For these reasons, proposes that you join the online novena to María Desatanudos, so that you can present your difficulties to the Virgin, because she, with all her patience and tenderness, like a loving mother, will untie these knots and lead us to reach the mercy of the Father.
