Prayer to the Virgin of Guadalupe by Saint John Paul II

¡O Immaculate Virgin,

mother of the true God and mother of the Church!

You, who from this place manifest

your clemency and your compassion

to all those who request your protection;

listen to the prayer that with filial trust we address to you,

and present it before your Son Jesus, our only Redeemer.

Mother of mercy, teacher of the hidden and silent sacrifice,

to you, who come out to meet us sinners,

We also consecrate our life, our work,

our joys, our illnesses and our pains.

Give peace, justice and prosperity to our peoples;

since everything we have and are we put under your care,

our lady and mother.

We want to be totally yours and walk the path with you

of full fidelity to Jesus Christ and his Church:

do not let go of your loving hand.

Virgin of Guadalupe, mother of the Americas, we ask you for all

The bishops, so that they lead the faithful along paths

of intense Christian life, love and humble service to God

and the souls.

Contemplate this immense harvest, and intercede so that the Lord instils a hunger for holiness in all the people of God, and grants abundant vocations of priests and religious, strong in faith and zealous dispensers of the mysteries of God.

Grant our homes

the grace to love and respect the life that begins

with the same love with which you conceived in your womb

the life of the son of God.

Holy Virgin Mary, mother of beautiful love, protect our families,

so that they are very united, and bless the education of our children.

Our hope, look at us with compassion,

teach us to go continually to Jesus and, if we fall, help us

to get up, to return to Him, through the confession of our faults

and sins in the sacrament of penance,

that brings calm to the soul.

We beg you to grant us a very great love for all the holy sacraments,

which are like the footprints that your son left us on earth.

Thus, most holy mother, with the peace of God in conscience,

with our hearts free from evil and hatred,

we will be able to bring everyone true joy and true peace,

that come from your son, our lord Jesus Christ,

that with God the Father and with the Holy Spirit,

He lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.

John Paul II, Mexico, January 1979.

Daily prayer to the Virgin of Guadalupe

Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe, mother of God, lady and our mother. Come here prostrate before your holy image, which you left stamped on Juan Diego’s cloak, as a pledge of love, kindness and mercy. The words you said to Juan with ineffable tenderness still resonate: “My dearest son, Juan whom I love like a tiny and delicate one,” when radiant with beauty you presented yourself before his sight on the Tepeyac hill.

Make us deserve to hear in the depths of our soul those same words. Yes, you are our mother; the mother of God is our mother, the most tender, the most compassionate. And to be our mother and shelter us under the mantle of your protection, you stayed in your image of Guadalupe. Amen.

There are other prayers so that you can give your day to Mary, very early.

Devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe

The Virgin Mary appeared several times to an Aztec Indian named Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, on the Tepeyac hill, north of Mexico City, between December 9 and 12, 1531. This man told what had happened to a bishop, to whom he had to show evidence of these apparitions. Then something wonderful happened: the Virgin Mary made him pick some splendid roses, and when Juan Diego opened his robe to show them to Bishop Zumárraga, they discovered a portrait of the Virgin Mary engraved on his tilma (the robe he was wearing).

Currently, this tilma is still intact, on display in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Mexico.

The brunette or mestizo-featured virgin appeared as a sign of peace, at a time when the new world was bleeding to death with the struggle between the colonizers and the indigenous people. She invites us to a peaceful and respectful evangelization of the American continent. This virgin is prayed to above all in Latin America, after she became the patron saint or empress of America. In 2010, a beautiful prayer to the mestizo virgin was written that exalts devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe.
